Preston Mitchum is a Black queer attorney, advocate, and activist of considerable repute. As the chief executive officer of PDM Consulting, a multifaceted firm dedicated to amplifying the power and voices of Black people, LGBTQ+ individuals, and young people, he has carved a niche in the spheres of legal and social justice. With 15 years of legal and policy expertise, Preston has championed the rights of historically marginalized communities through various influential roles in nonprofit organizations, from the Center for American Progress Action Fund to The Trevor Project.
A respected voice in the media, Preston has been featured in prominent outlets such as the Washington Post, BET, MTV, The Root, theGrio, The Atlantic, Buzzfeed, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, and The Guardian. His accolades include being named a Rockwood Fellow for Leaders in Reproductive Health, Rights, and Justice and being voted DC LGBTQ’s “Most Committed Activist” by the Washington Blade in 2021. The LGBTQ Bar Association also honored him as one of the “2020 Best LGBTQ Lawyers Under 40.” Preston made history as the first openly LGBTQ Chair of the Washington Bar Association Young Lawyers Division and contributed to the 2022 publication, The Black Agenda: Bold Solutions for a Broken System. His academic and professional achievements also underscore his unwavering commitment to advancing justice and equity for all.
