Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund
Sunita Thakkar Mahtani is a fierce advocate for social justice and gender equity. Currently, she is vice president for corporate engagement at Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF), where her team creates private sector partnerships focused on ensuring reproductive justice. Representing PPFA, Sunita serves as an advisor to the Reproductive & Maternal Health Compass, which offers the first-of-its-kind, comprehensive performance standard for employers to measure their reproductive and maternal health benefits. Prior to joining PPFA, Sunita served as northeast director for global corporate engagement at Catalyst, where she advised organizations to create programs and opportunities for advancing women in the workplace. With the rise of anti-Asian sentiment post-COVID, she led all Catalyst programs focused on the intersection of Asian identity and gender.
Previous leadership roles include time spent at WebMD, the American Red Cross 9/11 Recovery Program, Girls Incorporated, and the NYC Mayor’s Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence. Sunita taught as a lecturer for the Columbia University School of Social Work and an adjunct professor for the University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work. Sunita earned her master’s in social enterprise from Columbia University School of Social Work and her bachelor’s in psychology from Pennsylvania State University. She has lived in Pittsburgh with her two daughters since 2019 and lived in New York for 20 years before that.
